The Happy GayCelebrating Queer Fun and Laughing at Homo Hating Weirdos!! Thursday, August 31, 2006Tuesday, August 29, 2006Homosexual Activist Control of Gay Curriculum?I read many artist Bios when I was a teen. Then I went to Florence and saw many of the works I had read about. After spending many days looking at Michaelangelo's sculptures, I realised there was something the Bios did not mention. All his scultpures are of the male form. He did try a few times with the female form, but those works are considered his weakest. I remember feeling furious that I had read a long Bio of Michaelangelo (The Agony and the Ecstasy) and it had never mentioned his sexual orientation. Parents groups protested in Victoria, saying they "...do not want their children indoctrinated in the sexual orthodoxies of the gay movement..." Leaving out parts of history, and is not "indoctrinating" students. The proposed High School course will include many aspects of real life, students need to know history I wonder how many of the parents taking part in the protest will look back in the future and feel very differently after they discover someone close is gay. Classic songs from the 20's and 30's sung by and "to" men! Int he thirties, copyright laws prevented singers form changing any lyrics, including even pronouns. So, these guys were forced to sing of their love of men, and they did with such gusto!! "In my Little Hope Chest" has a fey Queen dreaming of her treasured box with the "sweetest little bridal gown all tucked away, feathered slippers and the daintiest of lingerie" and of the day "my dream will pop up like a Jack in the Box" Woah, how could anyone sing those lyrics with a "straight" face? The album also includes one of the best versions of The Man I Love: hspace="0" style="overflow:auto; width:340px; height:330px;"> Monday, August 21, 2006Monday, August 14, 2006The Life of a Gay PornographerThere is a big difference between str8 people and gay regarding porn. When I tell str8 people I sell gay porn memberships, they love it and want to know everything. When I tell even cool str8 people, they are titallated, but it really is going too far for them, that anyone could make a living form such "fringe" work . Like my grandmother, who said the movie of Dr. Zhivago had "too much sex". For us homos, gay porn is porn and also a revolution! When you have had to (re)discover sexuality on your own terms with no role models, Bruno and Roger ( my own) aren't a bad start. ![]() A whole bunch of straight guys have gotten into the gay porn bizz, chasing the gay buck. Dunno what they tell their girlfriends or their mothers. FUCK, are they ever missing the context!!! Us gay guys get such a charge out of sex that is "so dirty", a huge part of the gay identity is being radical. Gay porn is a huge middle finger up all the str8 forces that made life hell to live as a homo. Liberation through the erotic also can lead to inner peace and (don't tell the Pope) an awakening spirituality. I think of the gay movement at it's best as the 70's hippy movement: a constant re-inventing and re-exploring of oneself and the world. As a "pornographer", the gay porn offices I have worked in and visited are like no other I have seen. Having a group of gay people working together on gay content brings out a an unusual atmosphere of camaraderie. On a recent trip to Toronto, I visited Maleflixx, what a great bunch! My Buddy Jasun, who runs FratMen.com, has written a very funny piece on being a pornographer. Gay Arabs Speak OutFor Gay Arabs, coming out can be punishable by death. With the Internet and other global media, gay Arabs, at least in some safer countries, are coming out and speaking up. Very interesting article here. Tuesday, August 08, 2006Little Sisters - brown bagging it?Woah Was at Little Sister's Bookstore tonight and my partner bought a (non-porn) magazine. It was put into a black plastic bag. Where have their grey and pink bags gone, is this a sign of the times? I remember in the 80's, when Little Sisters was a very small store, upstairs in a house on Thurlow St. They were bombed and otherwise attacked by all types of gay-bashers. Then, being gay was just barely legal. Little Sisters has fought for 20 plus years against outrageous anti-gay attacks coming at them (and all Canadian gays) from not only weirdo extremists but our government border guards. It is so sad to see their proud shiny, pink and grey Little Sisters bags gone. They need all our support, buy your book and magazines from Little Sisters! Sunday, August 06, 2006Vancouver Gay Pride ParadeToday's Pride Parade was more like a 70's hippy celebration, such a spectrum of people there. There was so much more FUN in the parade, lots of dancers and floats. Even the corporate presence was more fun than it has been in recent years. My funniest memory is of the showing of the Conservative Party of Canada. They had a car with baloons and about 4 people walking alongside, a big embarrasment coming between Hedy Fry's party group and then Jack Layton's. Even the Green party had a big group. The Conservative car was roundly booed, it would have been more contructive for them stay away. Polititions are in a difficult situation with every "special interest" group demanding attention and particpation at celebrations. In Canada we celebtrate diversity of all types as government policy. Mounties are permitted to wear their turbans instead of the traditional mountie hat. Government officials go to Native and all types of ethnic gatherings to show support of our multicultural policy. This is needed more than ever with worldwide terrorist threats escalating, the root of all terrorism is intolerance. Stephen Harper: Why did you not participate in the Vancouver Gay Pride Parade? You were a few miles away in Langley. Participation would bring an incredible amount of good will to many people (and earn you some votes). All of us, our Leaders especially, need to keep working to build a more peaceful world. Our smallest actions can have very profound significance. Friday, August 04, 2006Lance Bass Comes OutNYSNC singer Lance Bass has finally come out, hardly news for gays. In People Magazine he explains that he knew he was gay, his "whole life...from childhood on..." He felt a huge weight, knowing that if he came out, it could be the end of the band. "So I had that weight on me of like, ‘Wow, if I ever let anyone know, it's bad.' So I just never did." The same story. It's like having to explain to the entire world that you have crooked teeth or bad tonenails. What a difference it would make if everyone could celebrate people's uniquness instead of passing judgement and then promoting hatred? Thursday, August 03, 2006Happy Pride!A few years ago, I felt that the gay pride celebrations had lost their place. The celebrations seemed slick and corporate, with no edge, everything was now mainstream, just another parade. The thrill of seeing the Mayor, the Premier, the Police Chief marching in the parade had worn off. How wrong I was! We now have a Canadian Prime Minister that openly hates gay people. The U.N. Human Rights Committee lists anti-gay job discrimination and hate crimes as areas that leave gay US citizens vulnerable. We have made huge changes in the years since Stonewall. As more gay people bravely come out, "gay" loses it's stigma and becomes normalized. We still have much work to do, making the world less fearful. Happy Pride Everyone!!! The World OutgamesThis week at the Outgames in Montreal, the United Nations High Commisioner for human rights spoke at the opening dinner: "Because of the stigma attached to issues surrounding sexual orientation and gender identity, violence against LGBT persons is frequently unreported, undocumented and goes ultimately unpunished. This shameful silence is the definitive rejection of the fundamental principle of universality of rights. For this reason I am honoured to participate in this vital event" Our Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, declined his invitation to attend, although Jean Charest, Bill Graham and Gilles Duceppe are making appearances. When I saw this movie, I did not know the story, had only heard form friends that it was very powerful. It's the kind of movie I like the best, as my partner says "slow and arty", character driven. It was not until after that I understood the story. Somehow for me, being gay has meant that my true feelings are hidden - most of all from myself!! Brokeback Mountain depicted this strange reality perfectly. I have spoke to gay guys that will not go to see the movie because they say they have lived it. I am not ready to see it again. I had a big reaction to the Brokeback jokes that were everywhere for a while, it seemed too painful a subject to be able to laugh at. "I'm not gay..." jokes hit too close to home. But, I beleive in being able to laugh at myself, and the world needs less seriousness, so here are a few links to Brokeback parodies that every gay needs to see: Brokeback Christian Edition |
