What's not to like about Opera?

I have always been crazy about Opera, have tried many times to shows others what an exciting experience it is. After a good performance, I feel a buzz of energy that stays with me for days. All the elements come at you at once: the music, singing, text and story coming together with the movement on stage. There is not another experience with the same power for me.
Gay people are well tuned to unusual experiences, the strangeness of Opera has a very "queer" element!!
A great intorduction to Opera is La Traviata, the new DVD from Salzburg is a very exciting performance.
Here is short preview:

The personal is political

I had the idea to create a site that would put the happy back into gay. Once I started thinking about gay topics to post, it became more and more difficult to avoid writing about non-happy gay topics: the personal is political!
No matter how "out" and secure a gay person is, they are forced to adjust to living with hatred from people that obsess on and despise everything about us. Even within loving extended families, there are often a few that make their anit-gay disapproval clear. The only answer is to forgive the hatred and see it as a misunderstanding.
Hatred is not a misunderstanding, it IS hatred, however justified.
A valuable judge of person't character is their treatment of gay people, because it is a measure of tolerance, and probably a measure of how they love themselves.
