Our Friend Louise Hay

What if all world leaders and everyone that thinks of themselves as "religious" read Louise Hay's book You Can Heal Your Life? This is a non relious book, but it's message is profoundly religious. If we can all work at finding within us pure love for ourselves, we will bring that love to everything and everyone we encounter. One at a time we can make the world a better place by quietly being love and acceptance to the world.

Discovering Charles Busch

A while back through one of La Cieca's podcasts, I heard about a movie called Die Mommy Die. La Cieca calls this the funniest version of The Oresteia of Aeschylus. I had to see for myself!

Well, this is a true Gay Classic. Angela Arden is down on luck, with a brute of a husband, a singing career on the skids and 2 harassing kids that steal her men. A lovely bonus is the bare butt of Jason Priestly.

Poor Angela, it is a hilarious to see the poor thing's downfall. Every Queen can relate.

Charles Busch is at the forefront of the great gender-bending tradition. He plays Angela so "straight" I am sure that many (non-gay) people wouldn't see the deception. The gender deception makes the "female" problems both an inside (gay) joke and touching.

Explore Charles Busch here.

BC Safe Schools Act

BC MLA Lorne Maynecourt has been trying for a number of years to to pass a bill that would require BC school districts to establish a code of conduct, based on the Canadian Human Rights Code.

The Alberta Government has a comprehensive resource website with lots of information about bullying.

Premier Gordon Campbell is not showing any leadership on this issue, only vague assurances that his government "...strongly supports school safety...".

This is not just a gay issue, youth violence is growing and unfortuneatly guidlines need to be made. How many school kids have to die before this government decides to act?

The G Quotient - Why a Gay Boss Will Have More Productive Employees

Kirk Snyder is a career development expert and opening gay man. His book, The G Quotient details why and how gay men are more effective managers:

"Identified as the G Quotient, it is seven leadership principles rooted in the professional worldview of gay men that develops through learned skills such as adaptability, intuitive communication and creative problem solving. In the workplace, these principles are responsible for generating unprecedented levels of professional commitment among their employees. In fact, it's why 84 percent of more than one thousand employees reporting to gay men across four major economic sectors report high morale within their working environments -- compared to 40 percent nationally."

Because gay people have to invent their lives more than hetero people do, gay people are forced to build many coping and observation skills about their own world. These personal skills are perfectly suited to understanding the complexities of the workplace.

The Student from India

It was the first day of school and a new student from India, named Chandrasekhar Subramanian, entered the fourth grade at a school in USA.
The teacher said, "Let's begin by reviewing some American History."
Who said "Give me Liberty, or give me Death"?
She saw a sea of blank faces, except for Chandrasekhar, who had his hand up: "Patrick Henry, 1775" he said.
"Very good!"
Who said "Government of the People, by the People, for the People, shall not perish from the Earth?"
Again, no response except from Chandrasekhar. "Abraham Lincoln, 1863" said Chandrasekhar.
The teacher snapped at the class, "Class, you should be ashamed. Chandrasekhar, who is new to our country, knows more! about its history than you do."
She heard a loud whisper: "F**k the Indians,"
"Who said that?" she demanded.
Chandrasekhar put his hand up. "General Custer, 1862."
At that point, a student in the back said, "I'm gonna puke."
The teacher glares around and asks "All right! Now, who said that?" Again, Chandrasekhar says, "George Bush to the Japanese Prime Minister, 1991."
Now furious, another student yells, "Oh yeah? S*ck this!"
Chandrasekhar jumps out of his chair waving his hand and shouts to the teacher, "Bill Clinton, to Monica Lewinsky, 1997!"
Now with almost a mob hysteria someone said "You little shit. If you say anything else, I'll kill you."
Chandrasekhar frantically yells at the top of his voice, "Gary Condit to Chandra Levy, 2001."
The teacher fainted. And as the class gathered around the teacher on the floor, someone said, "Oh shit, we're f**ked!"
And Chandrasekhar said quietly, "George Bush, Iraq, 2005."

Australia invalidates gay civil-union law

Canandian gay people have to be concerned about the threat to our legal equal marriage rights, with the vote in the Canadian House of Commons promised for September.
The Australian federal government has invoked special powers to invalidate a territorial law giving legal recognition to same-sex relationships, and Australian Conservative Prime Minister John Howard is one of Stephen Harper's best buddies. Why do these leaders want to set another example of intolerance, when intolerance is killing people every day? Isn't showing leadership with internal human rights issues related to stopping International terrorism?

Streisand's Fall Tour

Great news that Barbra is touring again. Her return to live perfomance in 1990 was thrilling, the CD is still one of my favorites.
This tour has her ..."commitment to direct millions of dollars to charitable organizations she supports..." I hope that fans can receive a tax receipt when they buy their tickets, just as with other non-profit performing arts groups. Also, I hope that there will be full reporting of the tour's accounts so that we can see how much cash went to what causes!
