Vancouver Gay Pride Parade

Today's Pride Parade was more like a 70's hippy celebration, such a spectrum of people there. There was so much more FUN in the parade, lots of dancers and floats. Even the corporate presence was more fun than it has been in recent years.
My funniest memory is of the showing of the Conservative Party of Canada. They had a car with baloons and about 4 people walking alongside, a big embarrasment coming between Hedy Fry's party group and then Jack Layton's. Even the Green party had a big group. The Conservative car was roundly booed, it would have been more contructive for them stay away.
Polititions are in a difficult situation with every "special interest" group demanding attention and particpation at celebrations. In Canada we celebtrate diversity of all types as government policy. Mounties are permitted to wear their turbans instead of the traditional mountie hat. Government officials go to Native and all types of ethnic gatherings to show support of our multicultural policy. This is needed more than ever with worldwide terrorist threats escalating, the root of all terrorism is intolerance.
Stephen Harper: Why did you not participate in the Vancouver Gay Pride Parade? You were a few miles away in Langley. Participation would bring an incredible amount of good will to many people (and earn you some votes).
All of us, our Leaders especially, need to keep working to build a more peaceful world. Our smallest actions can have very profound significance.
